Origin & Farm: GDM Farm, Mbozi District
This coffee is traced directly to the GDM Farm in the Mbozi district of Tanzania, a dedicated enterprise run by local entrepreneur Mr Grivas D Mwangoka.

-
The Farm: GDM Farm is a source of vital income in the region, providing work to roughly 70 people in the low season and up to 300 during the main harvesting period. Workers and pickers come from surrounding villages, ensuring income and opportunity for both skilled and unskilled local men and women.
-
The Terroir: The Mbozi district, part of the Southern Highlands, offers ideal conditions for high-quality Arabica. The farms benefit from high altitudes, typically between 1,500 and 1,800 metres above sea level. The cool climate and rich soil are perfect for slow bean maturation, developing the vibrant Citrus acidity this coffee is known for.
-
Social & Community Role: Mr Mwangoka plays an important role in the community, supporting local schools close to the farm by providing lunch and books for students.

Sustainability & Processing: Battling Climate Change
GDM Farm is actively addressing significant challenges relating to the high cost of farming inputs and the growing effects of climate change.
-
Climate Challenge: The farm is facing a new battle brought on by climate change, with inadequate rains and longer dry days reducing yields and exacerbating existing financial pressures.
-
The Solution: To combat this, Mr Mwangoka has initiated plans to establish a new irrigation system, designed to collect and reuse rainwater during droughts. This initiative will help increase farm output and secure the community's livelihood.
-
Processing Method: To achieve the clean Citrus notes and smooth profile, the coffee is likely processed using the Fully Washed method. This meticulous process ensures the beans are perfectly clean before drying, allowing the inherent brightness and Honey sweetness of the Tanzanian Arabica to shine through.

-
Quality: The coffee is rigorously graded and achieves a Speciality Grade classification (often categorized as AA or AB), signifying the largest, densest, and highest-quality beans.
Recommended Brew Methods
The Medium Roast and clean, high-acid profile of this Tanzanian coffee shine best in methods that amplify its clarity, brightness, and delicate Honey sweetness.
Pour-Over (V60, Chemex): Use a Medium grind (Optimal Method) to showcase the clean, zesty Citrus acidity and aromatic qualities. This is the best method for maximizing flavour clarity.

Aeropress: Use a Medium-Fine grind and a medium immersion time (around 1:00 to 1:30 minutes) to ensure a clean cup that retains the smooth Honey sweetness without over-extracting the high acidity.

Batch Brew / Filter: Use a Medium grind for an excellent, consistent all-day coffee. The balanced extraction delivers a reliable, vibrant, and sweet cup.

About The Roastery
Mont58 Coffee is the passion project of husband-and-wife team, Shai and Maya. Their journey began quite literally at home in 2018, when they took the plunge and jacked in their full-time jobs to start roasting coffee in a humble garden shed in South-East London. Shai, whose passion for coffee was sparked by childhood memories of drinking cardamom-spiced coffee with his grandfather, honed his craft on a tiny 250g machine.

This small-batch venture quickly took off, especially during the lockdown when the local community wholeheartedly embraced their door-to-door, bike-delivered coffee.

While they have since scaled up to a larger roastery in Ashford, Kent, and opened further sites, the spirit of that original shed, small business, big heart, remains central to their award-winning, ethical, and community-focused mission. It's a proper 'started from the ground up' success story, but with significantly better beans.
