Capturing the Past, Envisioning the Future. The Original Heavy Duty Workhorse

Designed by and named after Piero Bambi, the Linea PB brings a new standard of performance, dependability, and artistry. This espresso machine boasts the iconic polished stainless steel body of La Marzocco, with streamlined design and a sleeker silhouette. The exclusive user-friendly interface software allows baristas to directly control boiler temperature, brewing volume, hot water tap dose, and other advanced functions. With a lower profile and expanded workspace, the Linea PB provides practicality without sacrificing the renowned Italian design.

Conical Paddle

The advanced conical valve system enables gradual adjustment of water flow and pressure through an internal orifice, prior to reaching maximum pressure. The pre-infusion is regulated by the paddle valve, while the volumetric pump operates at full pressure, allowing the barista to conduct pre-infusion on one group while the other group extracts coffee. This innovative system permits the barista to decrease channelling for a well-balanced extraction experience.

Precision at Scale: How Integrated ABR Technology Solves Your Consistency Problems

If you’ve spent any time in the UK’s thriving speciality coffee scene, you’ll recognise the iconic silhouette of the La Marzocco Linea PB. Since its debut in 2013, it has become the gold standard for high-volume cafes from London to Edinburgh.

But the Linea PB S with ABR Scales isn't just a workhorse; it’s a masterclass in consistency. Here’s why this machine is the ultimate investment for any serious espresso bar.

The Game Changer: Auto Brew Ratio (ABR)

The "S" in this model brings something special to your countertop: integrated scales built directly into the drip tray. This isn't just a fancy add-on; it’s a fully integrated electronic system designed to handle the frantic pace of a morning rush.

The ABR system offers two distinct ways to dial in perfection:

  • Ratio Mode: Simply place your loaded portafilter on the scale to weigh the grounds. The machine calculates the rest, automatically stopping the shot once your pre-set brew ratio is hit. No more guesswork, just science.

  • Mass Mode: For the barista who knows exactly what they want. Program your desired beverage mass, and the machine will shut off the flow the second that weight is achieved.

Why the Linea PB S belongs in your shop

While many machines look the part, few can match the raw performance of the Linea PB. It was built for the baristas who are "in the weeds" but refuse to compromise on quality.

  • Consistent Pressure: You can comfortably push through 10kg of coffee per day without the steam wand losing its punch. Your flat whites will be as silky at 4:00 PM as they were at 8:00 AM.

  • Barista-Friendly Interface: The digital display and intuitive programming make it incredibly easy to adjust boiler temperatures and shot volumes on the fly.

  • Reliability Redefined: After years of research, La Marzocco refined the internal components to ensure this machine takes the rigours of daily café life without breaking a sweat.

  • Decluttered Workspace: By integrating the scales into the drip tray, you eliminate the need for external scales, freeing up precious bench space and speeding up your workflow.

Which One is the Right Machine For You: La Marzocco Linea Classic S vs Linea PB S

Choosing a dual-boiler, high-output espresso machine is a defining decision for any busy café in the UK. Here, we compare two giants in the La Marzocco line-up, the Linea Classic S and its more technologically forward successor, the Linea PB S, to help you decide which one deserves pride of place on your bar.

Both models specified here are Auto-Volumetric (AV) machines. This means they are equipped with electronic flow meters that allow the barista to program a precise volume of water for a shot of espresso. Once programmed, the machine will consistently dispense that exact volume every time, which is crucial for high-volume environments where shot consistency and speed are paramount.

Both machines deliver exceptional thermal stability, consistent performance, and the robustness expected from La Marzocco. The real differences emerge in workflow, control, ergonomics, and long-term flexibility.

Design & Dimensions: Presence on the Bar

The most noticeable contrast lies in how each machine sits on the counter. While their footprints are similar, the PB S has been refined to suit modern café layouts and more visual, customer-facing workflows.

Linea Classic S

The Classic S retains the iconic, angular silhouette that has defined La Marzocco for decades.

  • Height: 45.5 cm

  • Aesthetic: Brushed stainless steel with strong, straight lines.

  • Impact: Its taller, boxier structure gives it a bold visual presence, though it may slightly obstruct customer sightlines depending on bar height.

Linea PB S

The PB S represents La Marzocco’s shift toward a more ergonomic and contemporary appearance.

  • Height: 53.3 cm

  • Aesthetic: Sleeker bodywork, polished stainless steel, and a more streamlined drip tray.

  • Impact: Designed with workflow in mind—its refined profile and layout enhance visibility across the counter, improving barista–customer interaction and making the bar feel more open.

Barista Interface & Controls

This is where the gap between the two machines becomes most apparent. One keeps tradition. The other ushers in modern convenience.

Linea Classic S

A favourite for baristas who value simplicity and tactile control.

  • Operation: Volumetric push-button keypad.

  • Feedback: Basic indicator lights; optional Cronos Keypad adds small, built-in shot timers.

  • Feel: Straightforward, reliable, and mechanical—ideal for those who want minimal digital intervention.

Linea PB S

Designed for precision and efficiency, especially in high-volume settings.

  • Operation: Centralised digital LCD screen.

  • Feedback: Real-time shot timers, boiler temperature readouts, programmable settings, and Eco Mode status.

  • Workflow: Organised, fast, and intuitive, perfect for teams requiring consistency and easy training.

Internal Technology & Customisation

Despite sharing the same boiler capacities (e.g., 3.4 L coffee boiler and 7 L steam boiler on 2-group models), the PB S introduces engineering upgrades that directly improve accuracy and serviceability.

Linea Classic S

Strong, dependable, and engineered around La Marzocco’s traditional architecture.

  • Volumetric System: Standard flow meters.

  • Group Cap: Classic saturated group for reliable thermal stability.

  • Customisation: Primarily aesthetic options, with a small selection of functional add-ons.

Linea PB S

A more advanced platform offering finer control and greater long-term flexibility.

  • Piero Group Caps: Relocates the flow meter closer to the group for improved volumetric precision and tighter temperature control at extraction.

  • Eco Mode: Automatically reduces energy consumption during quiet periods, ideal for cutting running costs.

  • Advanced Features: Optional Auto Brew Ratio (ABR) system, using built-in scales to dose by weight rather than volume. This is the gold standard for consistency and recipe accuracy.
