Experience the distinctive, comforting flavours of the Ugandan highlands. Grown on the slopes of Africa's ancient mountains, this single-origin coffee is processed with meticulous care to deliver a clean, smooth, Medium Roast cup with delightful notes of Dark Chocolate and warm Cinnamon.

Flavour Profile & Roast Details
Taste: Dark Chocolate, Cinnamon (A classic, comforting profile with subtle spice and full body)
Roast: Medium
Strength: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
Quality: Speciality Grade (Ethically sourced Arabica varietals)
Origin & Farm Details: The Rwenzori and Mount Elgon Slopes
This high-quality Arabica coffee is sourced from two of Uganda's most pristine and challenging coffee-growing regions:
-
The Terroir: The beans are cultivated on the high slopes of Mount Elgon (in the East, bordering Kenya) and the majestic Rwenzori Mountains, famously known as the 'Mountains of the Moon'. These high altitudes (1,200–1,900 metres above sea level) and cool equatorial climates are ideal for slow-ripening, dense beans.

-
The Farmer: The majority of farmers are smallholders, working with approximately one hectare of land. All farming is done by hand, usually by immediate family members.
-
Share Farming Model: Families work together in community-based groups to process and market their coffee. This 'share farming' approach is key to improving processing consistency, controlling quality, and enabling small producers to access the speciality market.
Farming & Processing: The Washed Method & Ethical Mill
This Uganda Single Origin is processed using the traditional Washed Method, which is favoured for its ability to produce a clean, classic flavour profile where the coffee's true characteristics can shine through.

-
Harvesting & Delivery: The coffee is hand-harvested and delivered for processing at a central washing station associated with Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd.
-
Wet Processing: The cherry is floated (to remove defects), pulped, and then fermented overnight in large steel tanks.
-
Washing & Grading: The next morning, the coffee is rigorously washed and graded through channels before being moved to the drying stage.
-
Controlled Drying: The beans are dried on raised beds inside polytunnels for approximately 15 days. This process is carefully controlled by regular turning and maintaining an equal depth of coffee, ensuring the beans reach the optimal humidity level required for a stable and high-quality export grade.

Quality & Ethical Accreditation
This coffee is backed by industry-leading ethical standards, ensuring every purchase directly supports the welfare of the farming communities.

-
Kyagalanyi's Standards: The processing partner, Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd., is a leading Ugandan exporter that is ISO accredited and UTZ certified (which has now merged with the Rainforest Alliance). They are recognised for their active involvement in sustainability and community development.
-
Employee Welfare: Kyagalanyi enforces strong employee welfare initiatives, including subsidised lunch, 21 days annual leave, medical insurance, and access to clean drinking water for all staff.
Recommended Brew Methods
Cafetière (French Press) Coarse: Excellent for extracting the full body and enhancing the deep, classic Dark Chocolate flavour that is characteristic of this origin.

Filter / Batch Brew Medium: A superb option for a consistent, comforting black coffee that allows the clean finish and hint of Cinnamon to come through without being overpowered.

Espresso / Milk Drinks Fine: The robust body of this bean holds up beautifully in milk, creating a rich base for Lattes, Flat Whites, and Cappuccinos.

About The Roastery
Mont58 Coffee is the passion project of husband-and-wife team, Shai and Maya. Their journey began quite literally at home in 2018, when they took the plunge and jacked in their full-time jobs to start roasting coffee in a humble garden shed in South-East London. Shai, whose passion for coffee was sparked by childhood memories of drinking cardamom-spiced coffee with his grandfather, honed his craft on a tiny 250g machine.

This small-batch venture quickly took off, especially during the lockdown when the local community wholeheartedly embraced their door-to-door, bike-delivered coffee.

While they have since scaled up to a larger roastery in Ashford, Kent, and opened further sites, the spirit of that original shed, small business, big heart, remains central to their award-winning, ethical, and community-focused mission. It's a proper 'started from the ground up' success story, but with significantly better beans.
