Classic lever design meets modern engineering

The Kees van der Westen Spiritello Lever Espresso Machine combines classic lever design with advanced engineering. Its durable stainless steel dual boiler ensures stable temperatures, aided by a heat-exchanger that preheats water for consistent brewing. The machine offers precise, reliable extraction in a compact, one-group format, perfect for expert espresso preparation.

  • Dual stainless steel 316L boilers with independent power control
  • PID-controlled saturated group for stable extraction
  • Heat-exchanger system for consistent preheating
  • Internal rotary pump with adjustable pre-infusion pressure
  • Silent operation option when using mains pressure
  • Double-walled steam wand with PEEK tip for burn-free use
  • Programmable hot water and group flush volumes via display

High-performance features for expert baristas

Designed for serious baristas and coffee enthusiasts alike, Spiritello combines functional beauty with technical excellence. The steam boiler, with a 3.5-litre capacity and dual 900W heating elements, delivers strong, consistent steam via a no-burn wand finished with a PEEK tip. An internal stainless steel rotary pump allows for adjustable pre-infusion, and when connected to the mains, the machine can run almost silently. Every detail, from easy group flushing to customisable hot water settings, has been carefully considered to offer control without compromise.

Features

Adjustable Pre-infusion Pressure: The pre-infusion pressure is adjustable form 1.5 to 4.0 bar, by a large knob within easy reach underneath the machine. This infusion, as well as the subsequent extraction + pressure, is shown at the pressure gauge.

Adjustable Spring Pressure: Extraction pressure is adjustable by turning a disc on top of the spring. A small tool to turn this disc without effort comes with the machine.

Auto Stop by Pressure: In the display of the Spiritello, you can activate the auto-stop by pressure function. This function offers you two pre-set options. When other variables are kept stable, the auto-stop by pressure gives you an easy repeatability of volumetric shots.

Auto Stop by Weight: The Spiritello features two auto-stop functions accessible via its display. You can enable auto-stop by weight using an ACAIA Lunar scale to set two target weights. It uses a flow-rate–based formula to precisely time shot stops and avoid overshooting. Additionally, you can set a standard offset for each target weight to fine-tune extraction.

Locking Mechanism: Our distinctive Idrocompresso group is designed with a newly developed effective and reliable locking mechanism, which virtually eliminates the danger of a bouncing lever. This system does away with the old danger of fast moving heavy metal colliding with fragile human parts.

Easy Flush & Stop Extraction: The Spiritello allows you to stop extraction and flush the group without using the main lever. A small button beside the lever immediately stops the shot and gently returns the lever to rest. Another nearby button lets you quickly purge and clean the group screen for easy maintenance.

Hot Water Temperature: The temperature of the hot water is precisely adjustable by turning a jet, to be reached with a screw driver through a hole at top of left hand body panel.

Dual Boiler System:  Each boiler can be turned on or off independently and drained easily. The large 3.5-litre steam boiler uses two 900W heaters with PID control for strong, consistent steam. Hot water flow is smooth and adjustable via the display and a precision screw. The steam wand has double-walled stainless steel with a PEEK tip to prevent milk burning.

Internal Pump: The Spiritello features a durable 180W stainless steel rotary pump for continuous use. Water passes through a pressure reducer, heat exchanger, coffee boiler, and brew chamber. The heat exchanger preheats water, enabling a compact boiler with stable temperatures. The pump can be disabled above 3 bar mains pressure for quieter use, though this may limit pre-infusion control. It also refills the steam boiler and cools hot water.

Why Should You Buy Kees van der Westen Spiritello?

LEVER GROUP

The Spiritello’s spring-loaded lever group is key to its precise espresso extraction, combining classic design with modern improvements. Pulling the lever locks it, activates the solenoid valve and pump, and begins water flow over the coffee. Pump pressure can be adjusted between 1.5 and 4 bar using the pre-infusion knob. Unlocking the lever stops the pump, and a spring-driven piston forces water through the coffee.

The piston’s PEEK discs hold durable V-rings that are easy to replace and resist heat. Extraction can be stopped anytime with a button that returns the lever and drains water. Flushing the group is also controlled by a button, with adjustable water volume via the display.

PLUG & PLAY

Starting up the Spiritello only requires plugging in and filling up the reservoir. It comes with a built-in 3.5 litres stainless steel water reservoir and an internal quiet rotary pump. The drip tray is easily removed by sliding it forward and up. Naturally all parts to connect it directly to water mains and/or drainage are included as well. To give you the convenience of choice.

ZAPPO STEAM WAND

The Zappo type steam wand consists of a double walled stainless tube, with a PEEK steam tip, four holes of 1.2mm each. These insulated steam wands are generally appreciated for their “non-burn” qualities, but their ability to have milk hardly or not adhere is a possibly even greater benefit.

DISPLAY

The large round display at the front of the Spiritello, measures 53mm/2 inch and features a push/turn knob to its side. The barista can tune the machine exactly to their wishes. Eco mode and a host of handy features are readily accessible. A shot-timer automatically appears in full view on the display, whenever the lever is pulled.
