The Speedster, Shaped By Espresso in Stylish Steel

The Kees van der Westen Speedster Espresso Machine is a high-quality dual boiler espresso machine designed for professionals and enthusiasts. It has separate, PID-controlled boilers for steam and coffee, ensuring steady temperature and reliable performance. Features like a gear-style brew lever, shot timer, pressure gauge, and adjustable drip tray provide precise control, while extras like a dual-temperature hot water toggle and optional foot steam valve improve ease of use.

  • Dual stainless steel 316L boilers with independent power control
  • PID-controlled saturated group for stable extraction
  • Heat-exchanger system for consistent preheating
  • Internal rotary pump with adjustable pre-infusion pressure
  • Silent operation option when using mains pressure
  • Double-walled steam wand with PEEK tip for burn-free use
  • Programmable hot water and group flush volumes via display

Provides Extreme Precision and Super Smooth Pre-Infusion with Maximum Control

Speedster comes in a standard version or with the Idrocompresso upgrade, offering enhanced control over the brewing process. The standard model includes a two-phase stepless progressive pre-infusion cylinder, enabling gentle water flow without the use of a pump, minimising channeling and maximising yield. Choosing the Idro-Matic system (also known as Idrocompresso) adds an adjustable pressure ramp, allowing baristas to customise pre-infusion dynamics with greater precision. Benefits include:

  • Adjustable pressure build-up from 3 to 9 bar
  • Customisable ramp duration for deeper puck saturation
  • Improved flavour clarity and extraction for light or complex roasts

Why Should You Buy Kees van der Westen Speedster?

PRE-INFUSION AND IDRO-MATIC

Slow infusion without a pump and a two-phase stepless progressive pre-infusion cylinder reduces channelling and increases yield. Optional Idro-Matic offers adjustable pre-infusion.

Often overlooked, pre-infusion is essential for balanced, flavourful espresso. It gently wets the coffee bed, reducing channelling and clogging, while enhancing aroma and flavour by warming the oils. Even with stable brew temperatures, proper pre-infusion unlocks more complexity and boosts extraction.

A well-designed pre-infusion system enables finer grinding by improving extraction through increased surface area. The lever has three positions: up (off), mid-way (manual pre-infusion using mains pressure), and down (activates the pump for full extraction). Mid-way allows manual control of infusion time and pressure.

A 0.6mm jet between the solenoid and group neck limits flow rate. On activation, water gently saturates the puck with minimal pressure, filling internal spaces slowly for even saturation. Pressure then builds gradually, absorbed by a spring-loaded pre-infusion cylinder, protecting puck integrity. The piston shaft extends visibly during this stage as an indicator. Once the spring is fully compressed, 9-bar extraction begins.

To ensure stable pressure, the boiler fill system is automatically disabled when the lever is engaged.

DUAL BOILER

The Speedster features two independent high-grade 316L stainless steel boilers, ensuring outstanding temperature control and performance:

  • 3.5 L steam boiler – supplies steam, hot water, and pre-heats brew water
  • 2.1 L coffee boiler – delivers water at a stable temperature for coffee extraction
  • Each boiler operates independently with:
    • Its own electronic temperature controller
    • Dedicated heating element
    • Integrated safety systems

This setup guarantees exceptional thermal stability and consistent results, shot after shot.

STEAM AND HOT WATER

The Speedster is designed for versatility and control, offering two hot water temperatures through a single, easy-to-use toggle switch. Whether you need boiling water or a cooler mix for delicate teas, the system delivers with precision and consistency. A built-in mixing manifold and adjustable restrictor ensure the mixed water temperature can be fine-tuned to your needs.

  • Toggle up: Boiling water directly from the steam boiler
  • Toggle down: Mixed hot and cold water at an adjustable temperature
  • Mixing manifold with dual solenoid valves and a cold water restrictor
  • Pump-assisted flow when mixing for a quieter, smoother delivery

The steam system is designed for high performance and ease of use, featuring durable components, a stainless steel wand, and a precision four-hole fan-shaped steam tip (1.2 mm) for excellent milk texturing. Baristas can choose between a large control knob or an optional flip-flop lever for quicker, more ergonomic steam activation.

INTUITIVE OPERATION

The machine is designed for effortless control, featuring an intuitive gear lever, shot timer, pressure gauge, and PID controller—all positioned for clear visibility.

The height-adjustable drip tray ensures flexibility for different cup sizes, while optional enhancements like the unique foot-activated steam valve and Idro-Matic system offer even greater ease of use and precision.
