What people like

This machine is widely appreciated as a compact, espresso-only device that consistently produces excellent shots. It is lauded for its thoughtful design, including PID temperature control and a front-mounted brew pressure knob, allowing users to fine-tune their espresso extraction. Its sleek aesthetic, often featuring an external glass water reservoir, contributes to its flexible placement and easy water level monitoring. Designed for espresso enthusiasts, it offers high build quality and an E61 grouphead for thermal stability, making it a reliable choice for those prioritizing pure espresso.

Pros

  • Compact Size: The machine boasts a very small footprint, making it ideal for fitting into various kitchen setups and even as a travel machine.
  • Excellent Espresso: Reviewers consistently praise its ability to pull consistently great, professional-quality espresso shots once dialed in.
  • Precise Control: Features PID temperature control for accuracy and a front-mounted knob for adjusting brew pressure, allowing for experimentation and perfecting extraction.
  • External Water Tank: The separate glass water reservoir offers flexibility in placement, is easy to monitor, and simplifies refilling.
  • High Build Quality: Described as an excellent, well-built machine with sturdy components and German engineering, ensuring durability.
  • E61 Grouphead: Provides superior thermal stability, which is crucial for consistent espresso extraction.
  • Thoughtful Design Elements: Includes centered portafilter spouts for easier cup/scale placement, an effective cup warmer, and a well-designed drip tray.

Cons

  • No Milk Steaming: The most significant limitation is its espresso-only design, lacking a steam wand for milk-based drinks.
  • External Water Tank Aesthetic: While offering flexibility, some users may find the external glass water tank less integrated into the machine's overall aesthetic or a challenge for counter space.
  • Limited Pressure Profiling: The adjustable pressure can only be set before or after extraction, not "on the fly" during the shot, which might limit advanced profiling options.
  • Heat-up Time: As an E61 grouphead machine, it still requires a typical 15-26 minutes to reach full thermal stability, despite being considered fast for its class.
